Dominique Rollin signs two-year deal with FDJ
Canadian cyclist Dominique Rollin has confirmed his transfer to French team Francais-Des-Jeux (FDJ) with the signing of a two-year deal which will take him to the end of 2012 with the team. The 27-year-old cyclist has been rider with the Cervelo TestTeam
since 2009, but that team will be dissolving at the end of 2010 and most of the riders are moving to team Garmin.
"It’s official, I’ll be racing with them for the next two years. I’m the final addition to the team so we’ll have 27 riders,” said Rollin to
Cyclingnews.
Rollin finished sixth overall in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi last week. The rider has been in discussions with team manager Marc Madiot for several weeks and it was announced on the weekend that Monday they would be meeting in Paris and a decision
would be made.
“We’ve not discussed the details of my racing programme yet but I’ll be set up for the Classics. They’re races I do well and I have a love for them and the roughness they offer.”
The Canadian had a successful career in North America before his performance and stage win at the 2008 Tour of California caught the attention of the ProTour teams, prompting his move to Europe. He is a strong classics specialist and the veteran cycling
team has room for a new leader.
“I’ll have more opportunities with FDJ too. They have a long background with Classics riders over the years with Guesdon and Gilbert. Also there’s no main leader so that opens things up for me to express myself and we’ll be able to get some good results
in the Classics.”
He also has the opportunity to prove himself as a sprinter after the departure of Sébastien Chavanel from FDJ was announced on Monday. The 29-year-old Frenchman will move to team Europcar, rejoining much of the management staff he rode four in his first
four years as a pro.
