Don't Teenager's Get Into Trouble For Not Going To School??

I went into town today, and every second person I walked by was a teenager in their school uniform. This is not something new, it happens every time I go to town.

You see them walking around smoking and using their disgusting language - All in their school uniforms. Don't the parents or schools know where they are??

It has been nearly 10 years since I was in school, and if we missed school our parents were rang & I tell you I was too scared to miss school.

If one had been one of my kids, I'd be disgusted at them.

So are kids allowed to leave school whenever they want these days?

  1. I am in Victoria Australia and we get calls from the School if they are absent and we don't notify them by 9.15am.

  2. Unfortunately the parents don't seem to care, and the schools just don't have enough power to make kids go. The government promised tougher enforcement but after making a few examples it seems to have stopped. As a parent I find it disgusting that anyone would let their child get away with this.

My mum let me miss 2 or 3 days a week while I was in school, until I reached about 14 I thought this was great, until I realized I would never achieve anything if I didn't leave with good results.

I will not let my daughter get away with this, because I love her, and it makes me question how much these parents love their children, or whether they see them as a nuisance, or just don't care.

I might be preaching, but in the days of having a parent at home, family mealtimes and general FAMILY time, this didn't happen. Perhaps we should all take note and invest a little more time and effort into the next generation.

  3. If it wasnt your kid and they wernt doing anything wrong by you then why do you care so much?

To answer your questions yr 11 and 12 are allowed to leave early(seniors) and in some cases youner children maybe haveing an early finish.

I dont care much for these new laws that make kids stay in school. But im a gud kid who stays in school and always tries.  I always thinkthough that peaple should have choice.  You cant make someone want and education.

  4. Of course they do. The best way to deal with it is to report it to the school so the school would enforce stricter rules. I'm a teen myself and i know somebody who got expelled because of it.

  5. I would go to the school and see what's going on.

When I was in highschool the truancy cops were out in full swing. This was complete with $100 tickets and an embarrassing walk thru the cafeteria to show your shame. ( not cool)

If the kids have a lunch pass, you may not be able to do anything about it. I got a lunch pass if you had at least 2.75 GPA. (Although I lost it for 6 months after the truancy ticket)

  6. Same thing here too Charli, I think I wagged once in my whole life and got busted, now with free lessons and the schools so busy they just don't follow up anymore.....sad really, kids don't realise that an education is an excellent thing.

  7. I dont remember every being allowed to leave school with a pass or a note from a parent.

I have to admit, as a teen I probably did skip a few classes, but I never dared go out and about smoking and swearing!  I was $hit scared of being caught!

Maybe if kids have free periods at the end of the day they are allowed to leave early from school?

  8. KIDS CAN GET AN OUT OF SCHOOL PASS WHICH LETS THEM GO OUT OF SCHOOL AT LUNCH & SNACK TIME

  9. ~~Aloha Mum~~Here in the U.S. we have Police that patrol areas where kids are known to hang out,Malls,Starbucks,Jamba Juice etc...they will Stop kids and FIND OUT where they are supposed to be,if they are ditching or cutting they are picked up and taken to school...even kids that are known to be cutting or just staying home from school WITH  parental knowlege, the Police can and WILL go to their house and get them OUT-OF-BED and take them to school if Truancy is a habit~~Michelle~~

  10. Yeah I see the same thing.

We used to go down the street if we had free periods, that was in years 11 and 12. But a lot of kids wandering the streets look way too young to be in those years.

I doubt their parents know, I sure hope that my kids don't bother doing the same thing. Why on earth aren't the teachers more strict, thats what I want to know.

  11. I was at school about 20 years ago (in a foreign country) but let's put it that way... When a teacher was off "sick" or probably in the throngs of severe depression as was more likely, we were given the choice of going to the library or play basket-ball for an hour.  Most of us chose to go to the mall for a lemonade.  It was not quite allowed but given the choice... Who'd be a fool to choose to study or dribble?  It is all about socializing and this is an important skill in life.  Maybe socialize more and chill out.  Having reliable friends is a solid support to future life.
