Question:

Don't know how much to tip?

I'm getting mono-block done on my driveway and the total cost is £3500. It has been 3 men that have been working on it for 6 days now and I think they're almost done. The driveway looks great.

The problem is, I don't know how much I should tip them? I was thinking of giving the main guy £30 to share between them, then thought that £10 between them is perhaps a little insulting.

Help?

  1. I dont think most people tip builders.  I think you are on the right track moneywise.

You could always find out what their favourite tipple is and buy them some of that.  I'm sure if you sent them home with a box of beer each then they would be happy.

  2. A lot of people do not tip builders, but it is a nice courtesy that I am sure would be very appreciated considering the high cost of everything these days. If you can afford £30-60 between them that will mean much.

My godmother gives similar tips to workers now when she calls one group of gardeners for more work, the men will do extras for her, like moving heavy things for her. That and she's a sweet dear--she must be to put up  with my Cheek!

  3. If you're really happy with the job I would double what you propose.

  4. yes, i would say £30 between them is just about right

  5. I would never tip builders. I tip gardeners, taxi drivers and waiters and pizza delivery guys. I think 10 quid each is more than acceptable, since they are making a h**l of a lot of money out of you anyway

  6. Tip whatever you feel its worth tipping. Go with your instincts and I'm pretty sure you'll make the right amount and decision.

    Hope that answers
