I mean like a job when I'm older.

I'm good at writing and I get good marks in it and I've been published 5 times and I entered a story contest in the newspaper and I didn't check my messages until they had already published the article.

So yeah, that was pretty disappointing, but when I called the number they editor explained to me that they had already made the story and it was too late but she said it was really good and asked me if I was in university or high school and told her I was in 7th grade.

Can I get that story published somewhere else?

Also, I am very good at writing poetry and I've even wrote some rap songs and people on this site told me it was good.

I was just thinking about what I want to be when I grow up. I like writing and I'm good at it but, I think writing newspaper articles and being told what to write would be boring. Then I wanted to be poet and than a rapper.

And I now it sounds kinda selfish, but I do want my name out there. I love being center of attention.

  1. In addition to poetry/lyrics writing, screenwriter or investigative journalist are likely to be a lot more exciting that being a staff journalist at a newspaper.

  2. I agree with Big G! you shouldn't do that! it was not nice, so yeah.

  3. Hey there... First, you have a lot of time to change your mind, learn about what you enjoy doing and how that might sync up with getting financial security.

When I was your age, and in highschool, I loved creative writing. Getting published is hard and typically does not pay well (especially poetry).

Consider Technical Writing, Curriculum Developer, Instructional Developer, Training Specialist (in technical or corporate world). They're really creative, pay extremely well, are highly regarded and respected, and if you land in training, you can be the center of attention.

I was a technical writer right out of college, and earned 75k. It was a little less engaging than I would have liked, but it was a great way to get into curriculum development, which is really fun, creative and dynamic. (And it pays from 90k to 120k annually.) I am now a Sr. Instructional Dev  - and it's wonderful.

You can always write poetry/rap on the side.

Look up these job titles in dice.com or monster.com to take a look at the job descriptions.

    Good luck!

  4. What about the poet laureate?

  5. You know you like to write.  So for now, just focus on that.  Don't worry so much about what type of writing job yet.  I think that might come as you get older.  There are so many types of jobs that can involve writing.....

-Author of children's books or crime novels

    -Newspaper journalist

    -Music reviewer

    -Blogger (like Perez Hilton)

    -Advice columnist

Writing well is a good skill to have in any job.  Stay with it.
