Don't know what position to be on my Middle School Football team.?

Question

I am a 5'11" and about 185 lbs. and i am about to turn 14 years old( yes i know im kinda overweight but im really well built) I wanted to join the football team but i really have no idea about the positions in football and i don't know what to be... I'll probably be a defensive line since I'm big and can't really run all that well for a long period of time. My friends say I'll probably be a Center or Nose Tackle...I have no idea what those mean and I would greatly appreciate any advice.. Thank You! =)

Offensive or defensive line.  with your height and weight, you should be able to push the pile.  

Also if you have good hands a tight end is an option.  

You need to have good upper body strength to play O-line.  It's a little more technical than just a defensive tackle, but it's more important to have a good offensive line than a good defensive line.  Why?  O-line is what gives the quarterback time to make passes, and opens holes in the defensive line for the runner.  On a toss to the outside, defensive linemen don't do much, but o-linemen run block (the fun blocking... you just run at someone and knock them down as hard as you can to spring the runner).

Center is the guy who snaps the ball, and nose tackle is the guy who lines up right in front of the center.  Most of the teams i've played on (after-school things) we played something on both offense and defense. Give both a shot and see what happens.

a center is the guy who snaps the ball to the quarterback nose guard is the guy who goes up against the center on defense. If you like to tackle or hit people go for nose guard if you don't then go for center that way you won't be getting hit as much you will just be blocking. Just remember to listen to the coaches and talk with them so you can learn quicker.
