Question:

Don't know whether he can eat this or not?

I'm making my spag bol tonight, and I want to keep some aside for my 10 month old son as he can apparently eat anything we can now.

I normally add a lot of salt when I cook it, so I obviously won't be doing that tonight. However, I also normally make it with a couple of teaspoons of reduced salt soy sauce. Do I need to leave this out too if I want my son to have some?

  1. For the sake of you AND your baby, I would start cutting back on salt in your cooking. With so many herbs and seasonings available, why put in a lot of salt OR soy sauce?  (Garlic, onions, basil, thyme, oregano, a dash of vinegar, lots of black pepper -- that's how I season my spagetti sauce.  The only salt is what's in the canned tomatoes.)

Realistically, in  a couple of months your son willl be eating all table foods.  Eliminating salt for 1-2 more months won't make much difference if he spends the rest of his childhood eating lots of salt. So if you don't plan to cut back on salt in general... I would offer him the sauce as you normally make it.

  2. i think you might be best to or take your sons out before you put it in it is good that you keep the salt away from your son big pat on the back good mummy

  3. About soy sauce, when my daughter was about 10 months old, we gave her some stir fry.  The soy sauce gave her really gross poops.  I would avoid giving it to your baby for now.

Perhaps you could try sea salt instead of table salt?

    :-))))

  4. Lots of salt plus the soy..eww.. But anyways, you can still make your spag bol (whatever that is) but before you add the salt and soy sauce put some of the dinner into a bowl/plate and set it aside for your son. Then season the rest in the pot however you do it.

  5. No salt at all....I wouldnt put soy in either....onion and garlic are fine though in moderation....also herbs.
