I mean of course its about how smooth you feel when riding the bike, but COME ON!! I don't see many rapid fire shifters when I see people ride their bikes.

  1. They're actually very common. Those SRAM twisty shifters are typically found on department store bikes (walmart, costco, etc)

Most mountain bikes found at your LBS will have rapid fire shifters.

Personally, I think the rapidfire shifters shift smoother, but most of that sensation is from how well the derailleurs are tuned.

  2. They look cooler, but they do require more frequent adjustments to keep them working well.  The old twist-grip shifters rarely require adjustment at all.  I do like the way my rapid-fire shifters are fast and quiet, but they are getting a little slow on the upshifts now.

  3. MINE HAS THOSE!!!!

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

NO SERIOUSLY...MOST NEWER BIKES FOR AROUND $600au HAVE THEM...

  4. No, they don't look cooler than the integrated brake/gear levers on modern road bikes. But they are ergonomically wonderful because they fall right where your hands and fingers are positioned. I like them, but not because of their looks.
