Question:

Don't the Cardinals need to fire John Mozeliak?

He did not resign certain players during the off season (Eckstein, Spiezio, etc.) . He traded very important players (Edmonds, Rolen) as well during the offseason. He did not receive a good player for Edmonds either. Then before the trade deadline he traded Anthony Reyes when the cardinals couldn't get any good player in return. No other players were traded in response to the Rick Harden and CC Sabathia trades. Now recently he released Matt Clement.

He has also been extremely pessimistic about his players he stated that it is unlikely Juan Encarnacion will play ever again. He also said that Mulder is unlikely to return as a cardinal. Finally, He was also pessimistic about Clement's return.

  1. Rolen and Edmonds had to go. Ive been pissed ever since they traded Polonco for Rolen. Anyway, it appears they are doing just fine and I pick the Cardinals for the Wild Card behind the Brewers.

  2. I guess you don't follow the team very closely. Scott Spiezio had a $2.3M contract for 2008. He was released by the Cardinals after repeated issues with drugs and alcohol, including missing games while seeking treatment for substance abuse and withholding details about charges that were filed against him after a drunk driving accident. The Braves then signed Spiezio to a minor league contract and immediately released him for being unprepared for a game. The guy pissed his career away. Scott Rolen requested a trade because of his childish feud with La Russa. They basically had no choice but to unload that crybaby. And FYI, Troy Glaus is having a much better year than Rolen. Glaus has played in 26 more games this season, because Rolen was injured AGAIN. And Glaus' OPS is 102 points higher. Glaus also had a better season than Rolen in 2007. So how could you possibly be upset about that trade? Jim Edmonds is 38, he wasn't giving 100% with the Cardinals, and he was way overpaid. Our outfield is hugely improved from what is has been for the past several years, and we still have Rasmus in the minors. I'm not sure exactly why the Cardinals showed so little interest in Eckstein, but he's not a particularly valuable player. Anthony Reyes sucks. Where have you been? Matt Clement isn't good either, and he was only signed through 2008, so why do you care that he was released? He obviously wasn't going to pitch in the majors this year, and the Cards obviously weren't going to pick up his $8.75M option for next year. He was an experiement that didn't work out. Mark Mulder has been completely ineffective in both the majors and minors for the past three years, and he's spent most of that time on the DL. The Cardinals have an $11M option on Mulder for 2009. Did you really expect the Cardinals to pay 11-freaking-million dollars for a pitcher who has spent most of the past three years on the DL with an ERA of ~7.00?? Of course he won't be back next year! And Juan Encarnacion basically had half of his face exploded by a baseball, genius. You can't play baseball with only one eye. That's reality, not pessimism.

  3. well edmonds was washed up and old ,Rolen could not stay healthy and spiezo had problems like robbing his neighbor and getting into hit and run accidents reyes was good a few xs and eckstein we should have kept.  we have young talent
