Anyone who knows me, knows what a smart a** I can be. I tend to be the same way on here, but often people just don't get it. Is sarcasm a lost art?

  1. It's harder on here because we can't see your face or hear your tone of voice as you say it...

I have to admit, i thought about it a couple of times before i saw the sarcasm in

''well, since women don't actually f**t''

    hehe =]

    God Bless

  2. I think that oftentimes people cannot properly portray their "tones" online and things like sarcasm are often lost. I too am a sarcastic person but online, I can come off sounding high and mighty.

  3. You have to put "/sarcasm" at the end ofr people don't get it.

  4. What the heck is sarcasm?  All I want to do is come on YA and argue over BF vs FF and SAHM's vs Working mom's.  I loveeeee coming on here and hearing people bash me allll day long.

    It's great.  :p

    LOL

    Definitely a lost art.

  5. Yeah, I don't think they do!

People on here get so touchy when someone's just kidding around or being sarcastic!  It's kinda funny, but mostly sad!

  6. It's hard to read sarcasm on the internet, sadly! I'm the same way, my husband tells me that's one of the reasons he fell in love with me. If I think someone won't get it on here then I'll just type what I want to say and put "(sarcasm)" at the end.

  7. maybe that's because on here we don't KNOW you...It is very hard to tell whether someone is being sarcastic or not just by reading there answers/questions.

  8. i haaaaaaaaaaaaaate sarcastic people. (*sarcasm*)

seriously, though, with so many real a*&holes on here, it is hard to separate the sarcasm from the condescension.

edit: and, regarding school, let me tell you: i spoke in sarcasm most of the time when i taught 8th grade. it's their first language at that age. hence the reason i love 8th graders. they are often preferable to adults.

  9. On this site, we tend to put our backs up more, since there are some people who come on just to be idiots. I think, at least I know I am more easy going in real life.

  10. It's just lost on some people. Some don't get it & some don't appreciate it. I enjoy it as long as it's not insulting or vulgar.

  11. *Sigh* Sarcasm is one of my favourite past times!  I am actually a member of the "I Am Fluent In Sarcasm" group on Facebook.  Most of my friends are the same way...as we see it, there's no point in being serious about everything!

  12. Sarcasm is not a lost art. But you'll have to excuse the ppl on Y/A that don't take it as such when you express things in fun because know one on here knows you, and with just 'reading' the words, ppl take things differently when reading. I know first hand because my sister read one of my emails and insisted there was a vibe in it, and she hasn't spoken to me in eight years. Go figure. I told her there was no vibe and that wasn't my intention, but she refused to accept that and accept only how she interrpreted it. Sad too. But, that's just her.

If you email someone you know quite well and who knows you the same, then they would comprehend more of where you're coming from.

Here on Y/A, if you are making a sarcastic comment out of fun, then you will have to write that so that when ppl will read it, they will understand your intentions of the comment. :-)  Simple communication is all. Especially since Y/A has a great deal of diverse people using it.

Hope this helps. Oh, and btw...sarcasm isn't taught by teachers...the students teach them (the teachers) how to be sarcastic...LOL J/K...just pokin' fun there..and trying to make light of your question. Hope you don't mind. Take care.

  13. I don't think people are looking for sarcasm here. They are worried about their babies so they look for answers. Plus, it's hard to know if  you are being sarcastic on the internet.

  14. i am extremely sarcastic and goofy as heck. i don't apologize for it.  i can get goofy on here too. especially if someone is trolling around here.

  15. Sarcasm is lost over the keyboard.

I get lots of thumbs down from people who think I'm being serious when I'm actually being sarcastic.  Apparantly answering "Of course it will work- and put blueberries between his toes at bathtime to help with teething pain!" was taken seriously when someone asked "Will putting a potato under help reduce his fever?".

  16. I'm pretty sarcastic myself and everyone who knows me realizes this and accepts me for the nut that I am. :) I just try to remember that on YA (especially in the parenting section)  no one really knows "me" and therefore I just try to keep the sarcastic undertones to a minimum. Unless I am in the politics section.. and then I just can't control the sarcasm. :)

  17. I think what is lost is a sense of humor. I tend to be sarcastic myself. Most people get it, but there is the odd one who lacks a sense of humor who just dosnt get it.

  18. On this site (or any internet site), sarcasm is less than appreciated.  lol  I think its because you can't read sarcasm.  It just comes off as rude or ignorant because you can't type your tone of voice.  You know what I mean?  I've literally put *note the sarcasm* with some of my answers so that people KNOW I am being sarcastic.  There's still people who don't appreciate it though.

  19. Ask ur peediatricison

Only U know wahts right for U- do waht feels right, dont worry bout no one else!!!

(is being a total screwball a lost art too?)

  20. LOL...I have a subtlety sarcastic nature too...BUT I have found tongue-in-cheek sarcasm is either NOT appreciated or it just doesn't Translate well  via the Internet...the person it is aimed at doesn't see the gleam in the eye nor the little Wink...Oh well I THINK I'M AMUSING with my gentle sarcasm! **Wink**Wink**~~Aloha~~

  21. I am smart *** myself, I welcome you to our club. Usually people can take it the wrong way on here, because sarcasm has a lot to do with the tone of voice or facial expressions. Also some people are just uptight and cant take a joke. Dont worry about it. And at some degree it is a lost art, sad, it makes the world just a little more better with a little sarcasm in it. lol.
