"how do i surf" or i.e. "what wet suit should i get for all year-round" and they don't tell you any other info. and I know this is a info gathering site but how do people expect you to help them surf with out seeing them? Surf instructors are trained surfers that helps people and some time even they can't help people get up. how do they expect some person online to do any thing. I’m cool with Q's like where’s a good place to surf in .... or what ever, but some of the questions on here! All i can say is WOW

  1. Some people don't live near the ocean/ sea so it's difficult for them to get to surf. I think some of you are mean to mock these beginner surfers. They are trying to carry out a dream they have and feel yahoo answers is a way of getting help! Give them credit for having an interest in life and doing something about it. They want to learn and if they want to ask a question they can. They are inexperienced in the sport therefore they don't know.

  2. mm ur right

  3. Nah. You sound like a newby to me.  What's with the narccy attitude?

  4. Don't answer their questions then. When they see that no one has answered their question, they'll understand that they should add more details next time

  5. You can't learn the art of surfing on a computer, i'm open to people asking me those questions on a beach because you can see them surf, but on a computer they don't tell you cr*p and half of them probably haven't seen a surfboard

the correct answer to how do i do this Qs is PRACTICE

i'm with you all the way

also, bfarl33 you have no say in this it's for people who can SURF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  6. Your right, anyone trying to learn to surf the best thing to do is get out there. don't waist time on yahoo!

  7. the only thing i find more redundant than inadequate questions are inadequate questions which have already been posted thirty billion times.  i feel like i should just start saving stock answers to copy and paste.  i find myself typing "get a longboard, learn to be comfortable in the water, and ask your local shop" and my favorite one of all "no you cant learn to surf in a week if youve never seen an ocean let alone a surfboard before"

  8. I know I can't surf but I ask my boyfriend for help.  When I first started learning I searched the web and got tips, but none of it was really helpful. I mean hearing people on-line tell you to pop up sounds really easy but it's not the same as having the hands on.  I apologize for all of us newbies that ask stupid questions :)

  9. Absolutely, I'm a self-taught surfer and some of the questions on here are ridiculous like should I get a shortboard or a longboard to begin on?  I started on a shortboard and I kinda regret it now, it was an extra 3 months wasted on catching balance and waves lol, you're absolutely right about some people having no chance in surfing and looking for help by us telling them something =/.  Thanks for asking this question!

  10. Pro Surf  You really said it! Unfortunately, some of these poor folks think that they can really learn an ocean sport (art?) on a computer. My problem is I wish EVERYBODY could surf, and surf together in a friendly way. (Hey I like young aggressive bucks, but everybody needs to respect other surfers, even kooks, if they try to stay out of your way). And I am getting older, and I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up (ten years, maybe?). So I want to keep the spirit alive.

And it's also a shame that some of the lame answers that they get might make them believe that they should be in the water, when and where they shouldn't be. Anybody can be "Joe Surfer" on-line, and not ever have seen the ocean.

I know some guys think that surf lessons are lame, but really, they give a kook a chance to 'test the waters' and if they want to continue, then they can, at least equipped with knowledge of basic surf etiquette. So, that's why I encourage 'em all to get lessons. At least a surfer can make a couple bucks, too.

Wish we could make 'em pass a SWIM TEST before asking questions in this category.
