  1. When you go on a cruise the ship usually leaves the port about 5 or 6:00 PM.  You go have dinner, see the free show for the evening, and then maybe go to the disco.  Then you go to bed and when you awake the next morning you will be in a new port where you can get off and go to the beach, on a tour, or just explore on your own.  Yes they do charge for the ship's tours but you can either book your own, or just get off the ship and explore on your own.  Tours of the ports cities usually run about $40 to $80 per person depending upon how long and extensive the tour is.

On days when the ship does not stop in a port there are a long list of activities to choose from, depending upon the ship.  The ship has a Cruise Director whose job is to plan activities for all of the passengers each day.  Each day you receive a newsletter listing the times and places for all of the activities on ship so you can go if you want to.

The types and number of activities also varies by cruise line with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line having by far THE most activities. Things that may be available depending upon the cruise line and/or ship:

    - use the pools, hot tubs and water slides

-use the water surfing on a boogie board on ship (RC's Freedom class ships only)

    - use the full service gymnasium with all types of free weights and exercise machines

    - use the full service spa where you can get hair and nails done and massages and wraps.

    - use the sauna and/or steam rooms

    - use the mini-golf course and/or a golf driving range or golf simulator

    - use the roller blade track and/or an ice skating rink. If there is an ice rink there will be an ice show like the ice capades

    - use the rock climbing wall.

    - use the full sized basketball/volleyball/tennis court

    - play table tennis

-play with the over sized Chess/Checker sets and shuffle board

    - use the walking/ jogging track

    - use the video arcade

-use the kids only area, some with a pool and/or water slide

    - use the teens only area, some including a teen disco

-use the bowling alley (NCL ship)

    - shoot pool on a pool tables (RC ships)

    - go to a show room where there will be a show every evening, one for each dinner seating

    - use the game room with games and cards provided

    - use the internet cafe (they charge a fee for this)

    - use the library with books provided or bring your own

    - go to the disco that is open every night starting about 11:00 PM and lasting until the last person leaves.

    - enjoy the piano bar and/or the sports bar; all ships will have lounges and cocktails bars at various places on ship

    - some ships have a small movie theater and you can also watch movies (most for free) in your cabin. Princess has movies under the stars on top decks of some ships.

    - enjoy free 24/7 room service

    - use the casino for gambling

    - eat the huge variety of food and plenty of it, seconds and thirds are OK too.

    - sit on a deck or your cabin's balcony and watch the ocean go by.

    - go to art auctions

    - go to lectures and learning seminars on some ships

    - go to the Karaoke bar

    - enjoy wine tasting

    - shop for souvinirs

There may even be a few others things that I have not listed. Remember that not all ships have all of these things. Some may have only a few.  So you can be as busy as you want. Or just grab a book and your music player and find a spot to just relax.  It is NOT boring at all; not based on the 20 cruises I have done.

  2. I am going on a cruise in July.  I have heard MANY times that you cannot be bored on a cruise.  There is so much to do.  We have two stops; one in Key West, Florida and another in Cozumel, Mexico.  I think they dock for about ten years in each place so that is plenty of time to walk around and see the sights.

  3. I am going on my 4th cruise on July 6th. They are awesome...I am 13 and will turn 14 on our next cruise over July 6th and never once have i been bored on a cruise, and i am really antsy.....they are so much fun, especially Royal Caribbean......you aren't on the ocean all the time-only when you have days at sea, but those are some of the most fun days because they have the most activities going on.....some of the days you are in port and you can book a shore excursion or just walk around the city at your leisure, but you have to be back on the ship by a certain time.....no, you definately will not get bored on the ocean for a week...there is so much to do.....you can get off the ship for free at each port, but you have to pay for shore excursions, which vary in price...you can also usually find tours on land that are cheaper than the ones that the ship offers....the only downside to those is that you may not get back to the ship in time, although most likely you will.......every cruise i have been on has been amazing....we have been on one Holland America and 2 almost 3 Royal Caribbeans.....I would say Royal Caribbean is by far the best cruise line ever!!!!!

  4. I jsut went on a 14 day cruise in Europe.  They had 12 ports of call.  That means you get off and do the tours.  They were all day tours with lots of walking.  I loved it.  I never got bored.  I was exhausted and thrilled the whole time.

  5. that old saying....only boring people get bored!!

No, you can't possibly get bored on a cruise, even when at sea. They are fantastic and the best holiday you will ever have.

You don't have to pay the 'ship' for excurtions, you can get a taxi/shuttle as long as you get back to the ship at least 30 mins before it sails. They won't wait
