Question:

Don't you hate it when a company brings out fairtrade and non fairtrade lines?

I recently wrote to Thortons chocolates to question them about the prices they pay their cocco producers. they arent fairtrade but apparently are bringing out some fairtrade lines this summer- but at £15 for a box of chocolates i think its disgraceful they wont change all lines to become fairtrade.

the same with nescafe coffee- they have their fairtrade and their non fairtrade lines. its like they are willing to pay their growers a fair price as long as we foot the bill! i avoid these kind of fairtrade products as much as possible as i feel they've kind of missed the point, they just want to meet the minimum standards for this kind of product so they can compete in that market too.

does anyone else feel the same way?

  1. No.

Just because you believe heavily in fairtrade, why should Thorntons upset customers that don't?

Don't you think your attitude is selfish?

It's like me saying I really hate unsmoked bacon, and that they should stop stocking it. We'll I might not like it, but millions of other people do.

They are businesses and they have to make a certain profit to pay their staff, distribution lorries and marketing departments. Out of this the shops need to pay their rent, rates, utilitiy bills and staff.

How would they do that if they started making less profit on items that cost more to start with?

  2. Nescafe? Fairtrade? ROFLMAO! Where did you get this from? It is obviously greenwash of the highest order.

  3. Fair trade is a load of consumer appeasement bullshoot.

Whatever is going on is not reality,to us anyway.

a product is or is not paid for at the market price or it is not. This fair price thing is more bullocx to make us all think we are doing our bit.
