if it is a pity invite and I'm waiting for them i don't feel stupid i feel happy they didn't come, otherwise i feel stupid.

No. I don't wait on anyone anymore.

Now it does however p**s me off to no end when my 8 year old son's father tells him "Ill pick you up this weekend" and the kid gets his clothes for the weekend ready and he never shows up.

Yes.  I try waiting for my girlfriend, but she takes forever.  So I finish her off later.

Its not that big of a deal to me.  I take it as a lesson learned.  If I was that important to them, they wouldn't leave me waiting, so they can bank on the fact that I will never wait for them again!
