  6. Anti-poor? Should we ditch everything we do in order to fuel production and to make money?

Anti economic development? I'm quite confused about this one. I can't see how a recreational sport, even if commercialised as in the IPL, can be inconsistent with development goals. Developing countries may not be able to host their own tournaments etc, but its hard to link cricket with insufficient infrastructure, technology, poor government policy decisions etc. A bit remote for me. Its like saying governments are exchanging roads for cricket bats.

Waste of time? Very interesting. Maybe every sport/recreational activity is a waste of time then. Viewing things in such a strict value perspective is indeed quite problematic. It depends on people to determine if their participation in or viewing of cricket is a waste of time. Fanatics and fellow cricketers do not see it this way. It can be a big part of people. Passion about your sport is never a waste of time.

About benefits...Is it so 'obvious' who benefits? U must be referring to the franchise bosses. Firstly, they don't put millions into buying a frachise team just for the benefit of circket. They have commercial rationale too. Noone does things for losses. But does that really detract from the enjoyment of cricket? Since you are obviously directing your question to the IPL, i'll answer in that context. Who benefits from IPL cricket? Many. Young indian cricketers can gain intense competition experience. They can play alongside world class players (past and present) to the benefit of Indian cricket. Anything to do with developing better players across the world is a benefit. The result is simply the development of competitive international cricket. Secondly, good players across the world can be offered the chance to be financially recognised for their talent. Since for instance, Cricket Australia pays quite poorly. Thirdly, for members of the audience, IPL provides fantastic entertainment. Is entertainment a benefit? I think so.

  7. so is politics

  8. There is an old saying, that you have to 'stop & smell the roses on the way'. Cricket is the roses in many people's otherwise mundane lives. Never let it disappear.

  13. WHF?

Cricket requires more intelligence on the part of the spectators and I suspect this is why some find it boring. People who think cricket is boring are probably lacking brain cells ! JUST GO  AWAY AND NEVER SHOW WE BRAINY PEOPLE YOUR UGLY FACE.

  14. Cricket generates economic opportunities in all areas of the food chain. From the franchise owner to the concession stand owner and the cab driver who ferries fans to the stadium.

In fact Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Indies should follow suit with their own T20. It will create so many jobs.

And of course it also provides amusement to so many people.
