Don't you think football is in dire need of a salary cap?

People always mention limiting the number of foreign players on a team, but I think forcing a quota ruins the international camaraderie of football. It would be more beneficial to have a salary cap so clubs don't spend exorbitant amounts on single players and power-hungry businessmen don't come into the sport looking to buy their way up. If you look at the MLB, it ahs worked pretty well in my opinion.

  1. h***s yeah! Platini wanted to do it but apparently it's against civil laws =/

  2. Leagues should have a cap on BOTH foreign players and salary caps.

Having a cap on foreign players assures you give local players a chance to grow and makes sure you have a large enough talent pool to pick from for your national team.  Look how terrible England is, and they keep going down because only about 30% of the league players are English.

Having a salary cap is also good, because again look at what has happened to the English league, taken over by rich foreign investors.

  3. I don't want to see it, but in some leagues it might be needed. From the sounds of it the new owners of Manchester City might just force the owners into making some kind of move.

  4. I completely agree with you. It's awful to see the sport become all about money. It's disgusting to see these footballers only ask about how much they will get paid, as if £50 million isn't enough. I'm all for foreign players in any league and I wish and I'd hope FIFA one day establishes some sort of limit as to how much a club can offer a footballer.

  5. Professional Soccer should be scrapped altogether and not salary capped. Corruption and financial irregularities have tarred the once peoples game. Salaries are the main problems in the game in the first place

  6. That's funny David Beckham and coe want the salary cap taken out of the MLS as they feel it will promote better football. Personally I dont feel one is needed at the moment and dont see too much problems with power-hungry businessman coming into the sport. For me if anything it makes it more exciting.
