Question:

Don't you think it's selfish for church members to expect people to donate 10% of their annual incomes to?

churches? Wouldn't it be great if that rule was demolished?

What exactly do you think these members do with all that money?

Now you know why they are so rich with extra large grande homes, lots of money, luxury cars and what have you.

When I volunteered for the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer for the needy children for Christmas there had been those types of church members who passed by me and never donated any money to the till.

Obviously they weren't thinking of Jesus, especially when they cash in on all that cash from that total unnecessary tithing.

  1. to me, if it goes to a good cause such as: homeless, poor etc. Then I don't really care.  but if it's because they are getting their salaries, isn't teaching God's word enough?

I would donate anything to get those poor children a Christmas dinner. Bless their souls :(

EDIT*  I always check were are money is going when I donate. I get proof of it.

  2. I think giving 10% is fine as long as they're using it right.  If you find out they're using it to live a rich lifestyle then you should take your money (and yourself) to a church that uses it right..

  3. No, because God not man made that rule.

  4. 5% should be reasonable.

  5. Actually the bible states to give a MINIMUM of 10%, not a maximum of 10%. BUT..... it does not state to give it to a building, a man nor a religion. It states to give it to the poor.

Now look at that building, the seating, carpet, sound system. Think that money went to the poor?

Now read the bible again and realize Jesus walked up to a church (a Templars church which are the Illuminati aka Freemasons today). And since they collected money in a plate he flipped the table out of anger and said that act was improper.

Yet today you see churches passing a plate around. Now if you look at history and see it repeating today, you must assume its the same. Meaning religions and churches are not proper in their actions for they are not of Jesus but of the Templars.

Oh, thats right, the Freemasons started the USA. So guess who is in control.

  6. There is no longer a biblical commandment to tithe 10%.  That was an Old Testament concept.  Paul tells us this in II Corinthians 9:7:  "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

  7. I always felt that way. Its not worth it to give these ppl anything, but then again, they put on a good show for you every sunday.

If you arnt gonna pay for your ticket, then dont go!

  8. The average Catholic donates about 2-3%, however any time and talents are always needed as well.

Some money supports schools, hospitals, missions, members of the community, etc.

    It's all good.

    Best regards.

  9. That is why there are people like You and I who donate and volunteer directly to the cause We believe in. I help out a Women's Shelter.

  10. Yes, since it all goes to the Leader of the Church.

  11. I have two points to make. First, you are incorrect to assume that the tithe doesn't go towards anything but enriching the pastor of the church. This might be the case for some churches, but those churches are corrupt, and the church members who give do not realize this. When they give, they give out of a true spirit of wanting to serve the Lord. You can blame the pastors for any discrepancies, not the parishioners. But still, this type of thing happens in a minority of churches, although those pastors do have a lot of publicity. I know for a fact that my pastors live quite modestly. They give a detailed accounting of where all our money goes. I have no problem with them earning a decent salary. They are very educated and good at what they do, and are spreading God's word. As for the rest of they money it all goes to God's work.

One time, in fact, it was the middle of winter, and our church was holding coat drive. It was right after Christmas because that is the time of year when charitable donations are at their lowest. At the service, they asked those who didn't bring an extra coat to consider literally donating the coat off their back. I'd say about 1/2 the people in attendance did this. You should be aware that this church is in midtown Manhattan. People weren't walking to their cars in the parking lot and driving home in a heated car; they were exposing themselves for a significant period of time. I had bought a couple coats to donate, but frankly those people made a bigger sacrifice than I did. Lots of those people probably tithe, too. Were they not thinking of Jesus?

Second, it is rather presumptuous of you to assume that people who tithe do not give to other charities. Perhaps somebody passing by your bucket had just that week written a $500 check to the Salvation Army, or had dropped a bunch of toys off at Toys for Tots? Would you still condemn them as you have? Even if they didn't, I don't think you should question the giving spirit of people who donate 10% of their income to a cause they believe in. That's a heck of a lot more than most people do.

In short, just because people don't drop a quarter in the Salvation Army till doesn't mean they aren't thinking of Jesus.

  12. Yes I do.

In my church, the Catholic Church, one gives what one can.

And kudos to you for helping out with the Salvation Army's Christmas drive. Thank you.

  13. Tithing is a necessity to the church.  In Luke 18:12, he tells of how he gives tithe of all that he possesses.  The money goes towards running the church, missionaries, salaries for the church, outreach programs for the churches, etc...  If a pastor is getting a good salary then I don't see what's wrong with that if his church is successful.  Also, there isn't just one Salvation Army bucket.  They are posted all over the place.  PLUS you can send in donations via the mail.  So how do you know that people aren't donating money to the Salvation Army. AND how do you know that the people not dropping money in the bucket are Christians?  Do they wear signs that say they are?  I am a Christian, and I am not going to drop money in every Salvation Army bucket I see.  Also, I give to the Goodwill which also helps needy families.  So just because you don't see something doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

  14. Money should be donated to a charity. Not a church.

  15. I don't know what churches you're referring to with extra large grande homes, lots of money, luxury cars or anything else. Every church I've belonged to the pastors lived in modest homes, drove modest cars (if not down-right clunkers) and lived off of a modest salary, if they didn't work to support their families in addition to being a pastor. You should really be careful of these types of sweeping generalizations. You know what they say about assumptions, right?

  16. The money my church collects from our tithes goes into orphanages, medical supplies, small business start ups, food, clothing, shelter in places all around the world. Without this help, whole villages and regions would perish.

Christians are called to give 10% but if you really don't have, 1.00 is enough. What's important is the condition of your heart.  And yes, I am shocked sometimes about how close fisted people are.

When you donate or give to other charities, that is considered a gift or offering. That is over and above you tithe to the church.

I give as I am lead to give. I do tithe and I do help out folks I know who really need the help. Like with groceries or dog food or giving the kids a ride to/from school or whatever.  I do this because it's the right thing to do and because it's what Jesus wants me to do.

  17. The tithe was originally supposed to be 25%. Minimum. Up to 100% as you were called.

Once the rich  seized control of the church from the revolutionaries this was quickly revised downward.

  18. tithing, stewardship, whatever you call it, isn't all about money.  Do you belong to a church?

how the h**l do you know that those people who have passed it by already put it in another salvation army pot????  or donated to another charity?

Don't be so negative and think about it.
