  1. If you think that's extreme, I suggest you move out of Texas and put your kids in school someplace safe, like... uh...wait.... well, you figure it out.

  2. I think it's stupid that anyone is allowed to own a gun in this country...yeah, yeah I don't want to hear about the 2nd ammendment.

  3. What the h**l are we doing?

There is no wonder our education system is so irreparably flawed.   How do you expect a child to learn, focus and be a child when their teacher is up there packing heat.

School is supposed to be a nurturing environment.  There have been a great many tragedies becuase of guns in the classroom, our solution is add more.   You will hear a number of comments about they may stop a shooting, they may save a life, the students will respect them, what is really happening is we are just perpetuating a climate of fear.

There is something so wrong about a society that is so afraid of it's children that they arm their teachers.

  4. I think kids will start respecting their teachers again. I say empower the teachers not the students! Like it used to be.

  5. Its beyond stupid. Next headline you'll see: DISGRUNTLED TEACHER OPENS FIRE IN SCHOOL: Fire fight with other teachers ensues in halls. Hundreds of children injured in cross fire.

  6. I think its only asking for trouble.

  7. Finally some common sense.

People who've gone through the necessary background checks and required training do not commit gun crimes. The number of firearms crimes committed by legally trained and qualified people is so tiny as to be not worth even thinking about.

By contrast, however, the shootings at places like Columbine were possible because the perps KNEW that all their prospective victims would be unarmed. Knowing there's a good chance that they'd be confronted by trained adults with guns, anyone tempted to pull a Columbine in Texas will think twice.

Also, to the fool above -a teacher won't be able to "go postal" - the guns will be locked up, it will take keys from a teacher plus an administrator to get them out.

  8. Yes, absolutley.

gosh I thought students were afraid of teachers before......wait till they have a rifle.

  9. No, all teaches should carry weapons. Shootings like the VA and Columbine would have been less extreme if someone had a gun.

  10. Kids don't need to grab the teachers gun.. they're bringing in their own.

I don't know that I'd want teachers having it in class rooms, but have some weapons in the teacher's lounge or something wouldn't be a bad thing.

  11. No, it's a "little stupid" to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves from murderous thugs who might prey on school children.  There should be nothing to prevent any qualified citizen from carrying  firearm on public property. The chances of saving a single life far outweigh the risks that some teacher is going to use it for harm and would not have been able to circumvent the rules criminally.

  12. This where the NRA has jumped the shark.

  13. They can't seem to keep the kids from bringing guns to school, so why not arm the teachers?  At least that puts them on equal footing.

  14. .  Yes, a little.

  15. I'll bet none of you who are answering are from Texas.Since the mass evacuation from the East our big cities's crime rates have jumped and the school teachers struggle to even keep any kind of order.

  16. ITS VERY STUPID....... Y DONT YA HAVE METAL DETECTORS IN THE SCHOOL  OUT SIDE THE SCHOOL BEFORE U ENTER U SHOULD BE SCREENED  IF U HAVE ANYTHING METAL ON YA GIVE IT UP  GET IT BACK WHEN SCHOOLS DONE.

  17. Yes. Is it going to solve the problem? Maybe but it could make it worse. I guess we will see how it works out.

  18. I want to know how Texas is going to respond when a depressed teacher goes postal.  Or how about when the student breaks into the teacher's locked desk and steals his/her gun and then shoots the class.  Of course the opposite is true, a kid could show up with a gun and all the teachers could start a shootout.  Because you know the teacher's pistol will outgun the automatic rifle the student has.  At least we know who the kid with the gun is going to shoot first.  Don't Texas schools already have trained police on site already?  The issue would be solved if schools would create a better environment for the kids, where bullying and isolation are not accepted and the kids are.  Children from poor home environments who have good experiences at school, like school, so we know it's the environments in these schools that need to be fixed.

"Plans for the school in Texas include more firearms training than that received by your average police officer and the firearms won't be carried on their person and will be in a locked and secure location."

If Keith is right, then it doesn't sound as bad.  I would be okay with some guns locked away in the main office ready to be used by highly trained personnel, but not guns in the teacher's desks.  And the personnel's training/experience would have to include areas such as hostage situations as well as firearms.

  19. If someone inside Columbine or VA Tech was armed there is a high probability that many of those that died would have survived.  What defense do students in these situations have?  VA Tech has there own police department which responded rapidly, but by the time they were able to breach the doors, that had been chained shut from the inside, it was to late.  One professor with a gun could have ended it without the loss of life of a single student.  Plans for the school in Texas include more firearms training than that received by your average police officer and the firearms won't be carried on their person and will be in a locked and secure location.
