Don't you think it would have been nice if Britain had a football team in the Olympics?

I know that there would have been a dispute with UEFA/FIFA about England, Scotland and Wales being allowed to field individual teams in the World Cup/European competitions in future if they played together in the Olympics but why should that be? The Olympics is a one-off event and it would have been great to watch a Great Britain side take on the rest. Of course there would have to be a minimum quota of three players from each country playing at any one time.

  1. no cause it would be called the English B team as the only players you would get in it is English

  2. It's too awkward since the season is just starting and European qualification matches are just starting. If a player gets injured while in the Olympics, then there will be hassle about compensation.

It would be good, I agree. But I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

  3. Times like these when I wish Great Britain wasn't divided like this, why can't we just be all together?

Well, would of been really great if we participated in football. We would of at least came top 15, despite Euro 2008.

  4. I think they are getting a team for the UK  in the next Olympics since it is being held in London if they put there first team in they would defo win it no bother . It is hard for them to put a team in  now because most of the players are in the premiership and it clashes with the premiership but in 2012 they premiership will prob take place later in the year

  5. Might be difficult to get the football associations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to work together. Might be a lot of jealousies. Especially as most of the players might be English.

  6. Sorry mate, but how can three players from each country play at any one time? There are only 11 players on the field not 12. So even if you said 2 players from each country, 2 would be Scottish, 2 would be Welsh, 2 would be Northern Irish and 5 would be English. Having said that I really don't think that teams would want their best young players going to the Olympics when the season is about to start. Olympic football is just not that important.

  7. They have tried. All countries were up for it except Scotland who felt they would lose their football identity (whatever that means).

Because of this, it was impossible to progress with a Great Britain football team for events like the olympics.

Shame as it would be nice to watch us get thumped by random teams.
