Come on...it's not even made out of ham. I'm sorry but some doofus under the influence must have named it originally. What would be a better name for the hamburger? I'm going with "beef circle".

  1. Gee, this question ought to be called The Spamburger!

The hamburger sandwich is named after Hamburg, Germany.

FYI, the frankfurter is named after... you guessed it, Frankfurt, Germany!

  2. The name originated in Hamburg, Germany where a local way of cooking beefsteak was to grind it up, flatten it and fry the patties with onions.  Before it was Americanized, it was eaten like a steak and not served on a bun.  At the 1904 World's Fair, a vendor came up with the -er suffix and the name stuck.  Around the same time people started using toasted bread to serve hamburgers on since it was more convenient.

  3. That is like the age old question... "Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway"?  I think "cow patties" would be a good name!

  4. Steak N Shake already changed the name: Steakburger. :)

  5. i agree, the hamberger dose need a suiteable name to fit its true charateristics. i've been toying with the name beef burger, zanes(fried zanes, grilled zanes, broiled n boiled zanes & french fries). what do u thnx?

  7. I heard one called a "beef burgers" a long time ago.  It was a Sesame Street song and Oscar the Grouch was singing it, it was called "B Sandwich" and he said "beef" because it started with "b" and he had the whole "b" thing going on with the song.  I've thought of them as beef burgers ever since.  I know they're named after Hamburg, but I still think that "beef burger" makes more sense, especially now that we have chicken burgers, tofu burgers, veggie burgers and stuff like that.
