Don't you think the 'saucer' shape for alien transports is poor?

I personally believe in streamlined, triangualar vessels and that they are more suited to flying about, as are egg shaped.

What are your opinions?

  1. Within the earth's atmosphere a streamlined shape does make a lot of sense but in space the ideal shape for a transport of any kind is a sphere with a saucer being significantly more efficient then any design humanity currently has in space. NASA has also been trying to figure out how to incorporate the design of a sphere of saucer into their space craft as the design allows for significant improvements in maneuvering and sensors.

  2. I happen to often travel along a road that takes me east towards the approach path to Edinburgh airport. (The road betweeen Motherwell and Shots for those who know the area)  Planes taking off and landing late in the evening are often illuminated along the leading edge of the wings as the sun (below the horizon at ground level); head of this looks VERY saucer like. Even more so at they change attitude and disappear suddenly. I'm not suggesting this explains EVERY saucer, but this type of scenario  must account for a few...  Why would we assumed extra-terrestrial craft need to be streamlined? Triangular or otherwise?

  3. id say u come up with a new sci-fi movie and that will be the new image of saucers for the new generation

  4. Yes, the flying saucer thing is poor. And the spinning. Do they really think a living being could fly a "spaceship" and spin that much at the same time? Very strange.

  5. in the triangular, pyramidal universe - yes. However considering that our universe has tendency for spherical shapes, the best shape would be a perfect sphere that can fluctuate like a bubble and yet still keep the shape.

  6. As we don't know what kind of technology or physiology a spacefaring alien civilization might have, this question is tricky to answer. If the aliens need to have some artificial gravity on board their spacecraft, then their spacecraft would probably have to have some sort of radial symmetry so that it can rotate and create the centrifugal force necessary to simluate gravity. In this case a torus or cigar shape is likely.

  7. I have yet to see an alien space craft outside of movies i would say the shape would depend on the mission it was on. If speed was a concern i would think on the lines of a javelin if it is for transport more of a sphere shape to hold as much as possible. battle something more on the line of triangular for maneuverability. this would be my opinion.

  8. My honest opinions are that flying saucers are a result of premenstrual housewives not being happy with thier husbands.

  9. Hi, the one my sisters, brothers and myself saw wasn't saucer shaped at all. It was round like a ball and looked nothing like the ones the movie makers portrayed. The color was also strange,a bright royal blue. You'd think it would have been silver. But of course that was in the late sixty's,I'm sure they have updated their models by now. Bye

  10. We're still not advanced enough to know the best shape for UFOs.
