  1. I have to say with the exception of Safina's exciting run, it has been rather slow..........

  2. yes...

cause andy roddick didn't play it ... hehe

on the women side it's been actually very interesting, seeing dinara safina caming so strong.... hope she wins it!!!

  3. No, just many upsets

  4. I don't think 'boring' is the correct adjective to use to describe Roland Garros 2008, but "odd" would be better. Tennis lost a great champion with the shocking and sudden retirement of Justine Henin, so the three-time defending champion was out of the game. Venus and Serena left early after playing some of their best tennis on clay. Maria Sharapova struggled and finally lost to Safina. However, as mentioned, excitement has started to enter the tournament with the competitive match today between Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic. Tomorrow should prove to be interesting in the two men's semifinals between Federer and Monfils and then Nadal/Djokovic.

  5. I think I know what you mean but I prefer "strange" or "different". I think the unusually bad weather has had a lot to do with this feeling that things could be better.

I also think that for some reason we haven't really seen any greatly memorable games on the way to the quarters, semis and finals. Mostly the expected greats on the men's side have just plowed their way through with the success everyone expected. The women favourites were all eliminated in less than spectacular struggles;just giving up the ghost with hardly a fight. (yeah, you know, maybe it has been a bit boring at that)

Anyway, only Ferrer's games against Hewitt and Stepanek came anywhere near to being the epic battles one expects to see at RG. Even Monfils's upset victory yesterday over seeded Ferrer was not that great or unexpected, seeing how exhausted Ferrer was from his previous struggle.

But today everything should start getting better. This afternoon should be a clash of Titans and the sparks should fly.

EDIT (24 hrs later): Wow!! that was NOT a boring match between Ivanovic and Jankovic!!!!!

  6. Agreed.  I think that the overall level of tennis is not as good as it was in the past....especially the early rounds.  And, as much as people hate them, the early exit of the William sisters put a pall over the women's draw.

But I'm really looking forward to the latter rounds.  Ivanovic can still excite people, and the men's draw is set up perfectly.  I'm glad to see a French man in the mix!
