Donald McCain expecting strong performances from Cinders And Ashes
Donald McCain is expecting a strong run from his challenger, Cinders And Ashes, in the upcoming Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in England on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. However, the veteran trainer feels that the ground conditions will make a huge
difference at the end of the day.
Cinders And Ashes has been doing a very good job for his team over the past several years, but he tends to struggle on difficult grounds. His overall record is a good one though, which clearly suggests that he has the ability to take on the best in the business.
His strike rate is on the higher side and will be aiming to make more improvement in the coming events.
He has not yet participated in any event this year, but his form over the past couple of years has been really impressive. His start to the 2012 season was a decent one, as he managed to win a couple of back to back races in the earlier stages. However,
the end was not a good one for him, as he finished fifth in the final race of the season.
Overall, the Beat Hollow’s son has appeared in 12 events, winning six of them whereas finished as a runner up thrice. This clearly shows that doesn’t settle for lower positions easily and always gives his best at the highest level.
However, there has been plenty of rain during the ongoing season, which has made conditions extremely difficult for everyone.
According to McCain, “He's very much a decent-ground horse. The easiest thing for me would have been not to run him anywhere this season but that wouldn't have done him any good. The worst thing that was going to happen was that he was going to get beaten,
and he has been beaten a couple of times.”
The veteran trainer had high hopes from another one of his challengers, Peddlers Cross, and said about him, “Nothing's changed work-wise; he's the best workhorse I've seen. He's maturing, settling, and his jumping at Musselburgh was exceptional. I would
expect him to be travelling very sweetly down to the second-last, and what happens from there I don't know.”
