Donald Young blows away Paul Capdeville in opening round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
A comprehensive victory for the 21-year-old American competitor, Donald Young, in the opening round of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, as he outclassed Paul Capdeville of Chile to move in to the next round of
the event.
The contest was played at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, United States, on Monday, with Young winning in the most assertive manner. He took less than an hour to conclude his straight sets victory
at 6-2, 6-1, to eject Capdeville from the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
The bleak Chilean hung in the contest for merely 52 minutes before he surrendered in the second set to let the American away with victory. 28-year-old Capdeville failed to put up any serious resistance in the Young’s way and proved
a wall of sand in the contest against the aggressive American.
The Chilean lost control of the game in the early moments of the opening set, dropping serve in the second game and showing signs of sheer confusion. He regrouped for a while in the middle parts of the opener to sting a serve break
but the ballistic American slammed two consecutive break points to leave Capdeville answerless. Young took the first set at 6-2 and carried on his winning impetus in the following set as well to retain the control of the contest.
The second set was no different to the opening one, with Capdeville dropping serve early and then never recovering from the damage being done. Young stung two serve breaks to seal the second set and raced to victory at 6-1, booking
a spot in the second round of the tournament.
Capdeville’s error ridden shots proved very taxing for him in the contest, as he sprayed a number of errant strokes all over the court to assist Young to victory. The Chilean conceded five double faults in the matchup and secured
just 39 out of a total of 105 points being played in the entire contest. He crafted just on e break opportunity and converted it to perfection but it wasn’t enough to contain the belligerent American in the game.
Young was very accurate with his ground strokes and clinched 21 out of 25 first serve points to get on top of the contest. He was equally good with his return game and stung five break points out of 11 opportunities to drive Capdeville
out of the tournament.
The American will face either the eighth seed Tobias Kamke of Germany or the British qualifier, Alex Bogdanovic in the next matchup.
