Donald Young devastates Go Soeda in quarterfinal clash – PTT Thailand Open 2011
World number 55, Donald Young of the United States, became to first contestant to make it to the final four of the PTT Thailand Open, as he completely annihilated the Japanese qualifier, Go Soeda, in the quarter-final clash on
Friday afternoon.
The unseeded American took less than an hour to register a comprehensive victory in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, to make it to the semi-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Impact Arena, in Bangkok, Thailand, with Young displaying his belligerent tennis skills to dispose of the Japanese contestant. It was his 17th victory in the current
ATP season and the first one against Soeda in singles encounters.
It was a complete one-sided contest, with the American dominating every minute of play. Soeda held serve in just three of his seven serve games and utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup. The aggressive
American stung four out of eight break points in the contest to come out as the winner in a comprehensive fashion.
Young dropped just seven points on his serve in the competition, clinching 28 first serve points and his Japanese opponent lagged far behind with merely nine first serve points to finish on the losing side in the end. The American
nailed two break points straight up in the opener, racing to a 5-0 lead in just 15 minutes. Soeda crumbled under pressure and bestowed the first set to Young at 1-6, falling to a 0-1 deficit in the contest.
The American contestant continued his fierceness in the following set as well and two successive serve breaks in the fifth and seventh game closed out victory for him at 6-2. Young will take on the winner of the other quarter-final
clash between the world number nine, Gael Monfils of France and the unseeded Finn contestant, Jarkko Nieminen, in the semi-finals. Monfils and Nieminen will face each other on Friday afternoon for a berth in the semi-finals of the Thailand Open.
