Donald feels sorry for McIlroy, advises him to focus on the ball, not his girlfriend!
World number one, Luke Donald has sympathy for the torn up McIlroy who seems desperate in regaining his lost glory.
Donald finished top in the rankings after winning the BMW PGA Championship and proved that he is the better man as far as the rivalry is concerned.
In the past weeks, McIlroy was reported mentioning himself as the best in the world while giving an interview. After a few days, the former World number one missed two consecutive cuts and lost his spot as the World number one.
It was indeed a very small act for someone who should have been humble while being at the number one spot. McIlroy received an enormous amount of criticism on praising his own self at an early stage of his career.
On the other hand, Donald kept humility and focus rather than mentioning his greatness. These factors got him the prize he truly deserved and worked hard for, the number one spot in the official golf ranking.
Now is the time for Donald to shine. In his recent interview, he has shown sympathy for the former World number one and has advised him to focus on the ball and his practice.
He had humour, wit and class in his comments on McIlroy’s lack of focus on the ball, which made headlines all over the world of golf.
“I remember when I was 23 and had an attractive girlfriend, I would take my eye off the ball sometimes, as well. You can't blame the kid” said Donald while talking about McIlroy.
Donald has been appreciative of McIlroy since the very beginning of their rivalry. He still believes he has what it takes to hit back at his game and perform better than his last ten games.
“It looks like he's trying to focus on practicing a little bit harder and getting back to what he does” said a convinced Donald.
All that is needed from McIlroy is the right amount of practice that has focus of the right order. As far as Donald is concerned, he is having the time of his life, enjoying every bit of it.
