Donald wants to inspire the depleted New Zealand bowling attack
Allan Donald, the former South African fast bowler and the bowling consultant for the New Zealand team, has said that he wants to install motivation and aggression in the Kiwi bowlers. Donald was appointed as the bowling coach on Monday and he will be joining
the team ahead of the One-day series against Pakistan.
Donald said, “This is an opportunity I have been looking for, and I know I’m coming into a side which has had a few problems in one-day cricket but I feel I can help with bowlers. The big thing I always focus on is attitude and intensity and that all started
at the training ground.”
The Black Caps haven’t won a single Test match for almost one year; they defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 also thrashed them by a margin of 5-0 in the ODI series. Currently,
they are on a 11-match losing streak.
The Lack of penetration in their bowling attack has been their main problem. In the past, they boasted quality fast bowlers such as Shane Bond, Chris Cairns and Dion Nash, but lacked a collective punch to rattle the opposition.
The Nascent coach wants his bowlers to play to their full potential. He insists that his bowling unit will act upon a theory of hunting in pairs. A collective effort from a bowling line-up can harm the opposition and, for that matter, win matches for the
team.
Donald said, “You can’t expect miracles and we need to discuss this as a bowling group, I need to find out from them about what their thoughts are and what they’re lacking, when we can improve. But I have grown up in South African set-up where I knew what
I was going to get from the bowling group.”
Donald wants to bring all his experience to the table as he has played a lot against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. The newly-appointed coach aims to better the Kiwis collective bowling unit rather than focusing on individuals.
The home side lost the two-match Test series to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and their bowling line-up failed to take 20 wickets in either Tests. The One-day leg of the tour will be starting on the 22nd of January. The hosts have to play a 6-match series against
the visiting side and the series will serve as a litmus Test for both the sides just before the upcoming ICC World Cup.
