Donaldson looking to be one of the captain’s pick in the Ryder Cup
With the end of the majors for the year, the best players in the world of golf are heading towards the 2012 Ryder Cup. This is going to be the biggest event of the year, as the biggest names in the world are going to fight for glory.
The captain’s of the teams are Jose Maria Olazabal and Davis Love. All the European players are hoping to be in the side of Olazabal. This year the Welsh professional golfer, Jamie Donaldson is trying to be one of the captain’s pick in Ryder Cup.
The Ryder Cup is the most unique cup, as in it the European team plays against the American team. The cup is not played for money or some trophy, it is all about the glory. It is a fight between Europe and America and it will decide who the best is.
The venue for this prestigious event is the Medinah Country Club which is situated just outside Chicago. The Ryder Cup will open for the public on 22nd of September.
The actual tournament is going to tee off on the 28th of September and after three days of magnificent golf the event it is going to end on the 30th of September.
Donaldson is in good form and has been performing pretty well in the tournament. He registered a magnificent score at the U.S. PGA Championship. He finished at the tied seventh spot and had a score of three under par.
Now the time is very less and only two events are left before the teams are announced. He is currently on the 21st spot in the ranking for qualification, that means he cannot be automatically qualify.
He is hoping the captain will pick him. He would try to impress the captain by trying to win any one of the next two tournaments.
In an interview at the Kiawah Island he said, "It was fantastic. I played really well [from] start to finish. It was my second US PGA. Last year I missed the cut, this year obviously I did a lot better. It was great to play with [Ian] Poulter and [Graeme]
McDowell on the last day and finish seventh overall”.
“I was trying to finish as high as possible to get as much world ranking points as I could, really. That's what it's all about. We need to get those points up so we can fly up the world rankings list, really, so that's what I was mainly thinking,” he added.
