Donatas Motiejunas aiming to make it big in NBA - Draft Update
In this years’ NBA draft, it is the big guys who seem to be making all the proclamations. Enes Kanter and Bismack Biyombo were the first to start and now Donatas Motiejunas, the seven foot tall Lithuanian power forward has joined
the chorus.
Motiejunas has been playing for Benetton Treviso in the Italian Serie A since 2009 and the lanky forward is now looking to make his debut in the National Basketball Association. Prior to this Donatas announced himself for the 2010
draft, but withdrew his name at the last moment.
The European player has earned many awards before heading to the draft. He has the size and length to hold up the bigs in NBA and at the same time, he possesses the speed and agility to live up to the NBA game. Donatas is ambidextrous
and has a good accuracy from the long range. With this height, he will also be a good option on pick and roll and a consistent double-double threat.
And Motiejunas is not shy of telling the world, how good he is.
"I think I'm a pretty good player who can do a lot of stuff. I'm a different type of player than all the other Americans are. I like the speed game, and the NBA is a speed game. I'm not scared of contact. I think I'll move really
fast."
However, Motiejunas needs to enhance his defensive skills which are pretty low at the moment. Besides the defence, Donatas is also inconsistent from the charity stripe.
He had a good last season in Italy, where he scored at an average of 12.4 points per game on a 58 percent field goal shooting, 36 percent three-point shooting and 74 percent from the free throw line. He clutched 4.1 rebounds and
also dished out assists at an average of 1.1 per game. Later in the Euro Cup, Donatas tallied an average of 11.2 points and grabbed 5.3 rebounds.
Motiejunas is here to prove that he is not just another big man from Europe and that also depicts in his game. However, the expected top 10 pick hasn’t got the response that he was hoping for so far. Donatas is being rated as the
fifth best international draft pick after, Enes Kanter, Jan Vesely and Bismack Biyombo and Onas Valanciunas.
Still the 20 year old believes that he has those old moves which the players in the American league have forgotten and that gives him an added advantage over other draft prospects.
