Does goodwill donate their used books to schools?

Has anyone had luck with going to goodwill and asking them to provide your agency with free books?

I am working with an underserved school (it has been grade F for over 5 years) and the kids REALLY need books to read, along with a lot of other things, so I was thinking that since goodwill gets books free and usually has a huge supply, they may be willing to give me a few boxes of their older stock for free.

Do libraries donate used books? What other community resources could I ask for book donations?

We also could use school supplies (for teachers and students!), health supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc...) and lots of other things! If anyone has ideas, please share them!

  1. Many libraries do donate older books to schools.  I would call the local library and speak with the librarian and see what they say.

Have you tried getting some media attention about the school?  Calling the local newspaper, radio station, or television station.  I would do that also.  People are usually willing to help out once they hear the situation.

    Good luck.
