Donating money to an HIV patient?

I'd like to donate some money to an HIV patient in the US to help him get treatment. There are lots of websites but I can't tell which ones are for real and which ones are rip offs. The ones that are definitely legitimate are more likely to ask you to sponsor an HIV+ child or to support research. So does anyone know of a reliable website that collects donations for individual patients?

What I would suggest is finding a HIV service organization in your area. Talk with the head of case management, or volunteers and tell them what you want to do. By working through a specific organization you will get more for your money. Larger groups could take a percentage of your money for administrative reasons, where working locally you have greater control where your money is going.
