Donating???????

My friend and I are doing a service project where we make stuffed animals (we have been sewing for 6 years and are very experienced.) We don't know where to donate them. Maybe a shelter where moms and children go when they are abused. We can't do hospitals because they might carry germs. We want somewhere where not a lot of people donate to. Please help us think of some places. Thank you!

P.S we live in North Carolina

  1. OPERATION TEDDYCARE

    PO BOX 790

    Freeland, WA

    98249-0790

They will accept any and all stuffed animals/Teddy Bears etc. and give them to children of those who's parents are in the military and abused children.

  2. What you're doing is really great!!!! If you really wanted to, you could still probably donate them to a hospital. The hospital will wash them before they give them to patients, like they do will the stuffed animals they buy at stores.

A woman's shelter is a great idea and the children that go there are often overlooked. Do you have a Ronald McDonald house in your area (where families of kids who have cancer go to stay during treatment)??

  3. Great idea! And lots of good suggestions already so I won't repeat those. What about an ambulance service? My mom is part of a group where they sew and donate quilts to ambulance services across the province. Especially during a tragedy such as a fire or car crash, they are able to use the blankets for the injured or other victims. She makes a lot of kid's quilts for them because the kids feel better if it's a blanket with bears or whatever on them. I bet they would take the bears because those sorts of things help calm children down.

  4. You can probably donate to a shelter for women.  There are also Red Cross organizations, Catholic Charities, and usually local church charities you can donate to as well.  Look in the yellow pages under Charity or Charitable Donations and you should find something.

    How nice of you!

  5. There is a great story I read about in Montreal.  Every year, just before Christmas, a couple walks into the local Goodwill or Salvation Army store and buys every single toy in the store.  They then leave the toys in the store and instruct the staff that every time a child comes into the store (with a parent obviously) the staff was to give one of the toys to the child, free.  They do this totally anonymously -- nobody knows who they are.

What an incredible surprise for the kid and a relief for the parent who may not be able to afford it.

Could you do something like this?   Anonymously bring these stuffed animals to your local Goodwill / Salvation Army store before Christmas and donate them with the same instructions that they give one free to every child who comes in before Christmas?  And if you want to see the joy first hand, hang out in the store for an afternoon before Christmas and watch the happiness you are bringing on the faces of the kids yourself.
