Doncaster Rovers beat Derby County 3-1 in a Championship League encounter at the Pride Park on Tuesday evening. The visitors ended their six game losing streak and moved to the 16th spot in the league table with this victory.

The first half started positively for the hosts, who came close to scoring in the fourth minute. Ben Davies produced a cross and Steve Davies’s right footed shot from inside the penalty area went just wide of the post. Both teams were involved in ragged midfield challenges but neither of them could dominate possession. The game proceeded at a slow pace until the half hour mark. In the 34th minute, Doncaster goalkeeper made a double save to deny Jamie Ward and Ben Davies. Derby County continued to dominate but it was the visitors who opened the scoring against the run of play. Gary Woods fed Billy Sharp on the edge of the penalty area and his low drive found the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0 for Doncaster Rovers.
The second half witnessed an exciting start as Doncaster doubled their advantage immediately after resumption of play. Jon Oster sent a perfect cross and Sharp headed home from six yards to make it 2-0 for the visitors. Moments later, the visitors could have scored their third but Brian Stock’s shot brushed the cross bar and went out for a goal kick. The visitors were in total control of the game in the second half, as Derby drowned after conceding the second goal. The hosts could not trouble the Doncaster goal at all in the second half. The visitors scored their third goal of the evening in the 71st minute. Joseph Mills found the net with a goal from deep inside the penalty area to make it 3-0. The hosts could have scored five or six goals had they taken their chances. Derby County scored a consolation goal late in the second half as their lone warrior of the evening, Steven Davies, headed home from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Green’s cross to make it 1-3 for the hosts. The goal was too late to inspire the hosts, who slumped to their 17th defeat of the season.
Derby County will take on Barnsley in their next encounter on 5th March, while Doncaster Rovers will face Leeds United the same day.
