Dong Hyun Kim seals win over Sean Pierson by a unanimous decision - UFC 141
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted UFC 141 on December 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the featured welterweight bout on the preliminary card was fought between South Korean mixed martial art (MMA) fighter,
Dong Hyun Kim and Canadian MMA fighter, Sean Pierson. Kim won the fight 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 by a unanimous decision in the end.
The South Korean fighter wasted no time in taking an offensive position right at the beginning of the fight and went for a leg kick, failing to connect with the belligerent Pierson. He grabbed Kim’s leg and pushed him hard
against the cage. Kim retained his focus in the fight and kept his aggressive strategy in play. He used his arms to throw away Pierson but could not do so as the Canadian fighter backed away in response to a possible attack.
Kim returned in the middle of the cage and threw his kicks to his opponent but most of them went off target. Pierson caught his flying kick and went for a takedown but Kim used his strength to counter the move and keep a
vertical base. Kim soon went for the kick and knee strikes but the gap between the two was widening, as the attack again proved ineffective. Pierson was boosting up his confidence and went for his combo strikes and punches but Kim was able to manage all of
his attacking moves.
Both fighters were getting frustrated for not having enough power to strike down their opponent, which is why they intentionally narrowed the gap and locked hands. With nowhere to run, Kim used his grappling techniques and
locked his strong arms around Pierson. Kim was trying to hold Pierson’s head but the Canadian forced himself out of the lock. Pierson went for the strike but Kim was again vigilant of his opponent’s moves as he threw Pierson against the cage. The second round
bell rang and the fighters went back in the middle of the cage.
The final round of the fight saw Kim in a hostile mood. The South Korean used his kickboxing experience and threw strong leg kicks to damage Pierson’s legs and abdomen. The moment he thought his leg kicks were enough he went
for the takedown to finish Pierson off for good. Kim was making the most of his leg kicks but Pierson was also resiliently keeping his ground. The last round ended with Kim throwing his kicks but both fighters were left standing. Dong Hyun Kim won the fight
30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
