Dong Lu seizes Women’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Dong Lu of China seized gold medal of Women’s 100m backstroke in S6 category on initial day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
Lu stayed comfortably ahead of her opponents throughout the discipline and made her way to the finishing end for the title. With her astonishing pace, she faced no difficulty in overpowering her rivals and tapped the wall for the crown.
She remained in a prominent lead over her opponents from the start and broke the world record of the discipline by capturing gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 24.71 seconds.
The Chinese veteran was followed by Nyree Kindred of Great Britain, who stayed one and a half body length behind and secured silver medal of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 26.23 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Mirjam de Koning-Peper of Netherlands, who remained nearly three body lengths behind and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 29.04 seconds.
Subsequently, Oksana Khrul of Ukraine, who remained 0.91 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 29.95 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Julia Castello Farre of Spain, who suffered a loss of two body lengths from Khrul and submitted a time of 1 minute and 31.67 seconds.
Similarly, Fuying Jiang of China secured sixth best spot of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 33.32 seconds.
Jiang was traced by Emanuela Romano of Italy, who stayed 0.58 seconds slower and ended her race in seventh place by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 33.90 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Anastasia Diodorova of Russia, who stayed half body length slower from her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 34.48 seconds.
In addition, Lu was very happy with her gold claiming effort and collected medal for her undisputed effort after the event.
