Donkey Saddles? ?

Question

I was just wondering where you can buy tack for Donkeys. We are fostering a Donkey who was rescued fro ma auction in New Jersey and plan to use him in lessons. I just did a google search for Donkey Saddles and coudn't find anything. I do own a treeless but use it on other horses and would prefer seperate tack for the donkey.

You dont need a saddle for a donkey.  Just stand behind him, and hold his tail. lol

Lots of longear people use McClellan trees on their donks, even the old Calvary style with the hole down the middle.

The ones I have seen honestly do fit their backs fairly well due to the shorter bars on it.

For my guy, its just a regular tree that I just went through and tried on him.  You can find horse saddles, but you need ones with the flatter bars and little rock.  Its a battle to find one no doubt.

If you know someone with a McClellan tree ask them to let you borrow it and see.

I heard that Aussie Saddles work great with donkeys. I will try to find the info online and add the site.

I'm thinking you can use a horse saddle. How could it possibly be any different?

We have done alot of training with donkeys and just use a regular light weight saddle that won't pinch the withers.

Look around for pony tack and try that. If someone else like a friend you know has a pony saddle or a saddle that might fit him try it on him and see how that works then look for it online or in a tack store and buy it. I don't really think there is a donkey saddle out there but I've seen people ride donkey's in english and western saddles.
