Donnie Walsh recovering well, impressed with Mike D’Antoni
New York Knicks president Donnie Walsh said on Tuesday 23 November that he is recovering faster than expected and he could resume working two weeks from now after undergoing surgery last
week.
Walsh, whose job status was left hanging on the balance after the hip-replacement surgery, said that he is feeling good and he is glad that he finally had the surgery after delaying it for
almost six years. “I'm feeling pretty good. I am thrilled I had it done. It needed to be done,” he said.
Walsh also added that he is feeling well mainly because of the current performance of the Knicks, especially during their four-game West Coast trip last week, where they posted a 3-1 record.
He commended Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni for adjusting well after having a lacklustre start this season.
“I'm really happy to see them grasping the style Mike brought here,” Walsh said on D’Antoni’s run-and-gun system. “They're functioning very well in it. Mike made some good adjustments within
the style that's better suited for this team -- moving the ball, not relying on just one guy to pick and roll, and involving all the players on the floor.”
Before racking up three-straight road wins last week, the Knicks absorbed five-straight defeats and Walsh was reportedly disappointed with D’Antoni. However, the 69-year-old president said
that he was not frustrated with their head coach because he understands that the Knicks are still adjusting after having a major roster revamp during the off-season.
“I've been happy with Mike,” Walsh said on D’Antoni. “I wasn't unhappy with Mike. In New York, they want you judged day by day. I thought since we had so many new players learning the new
system, it was going to take time to have that happen.”
The Knicks posted their fourth-straight win on Tuesday 23 November when they defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, 110-107, at the Madison Square Garden. They will gun for fifth-straight victory
when they face the Bobcats again on Wednesday 24 November in Charlotte.
