Donovan McNabb scoffs at the notion that he doesn't know the offensive play book
Despite the fact that his team is ranked No. 19 in the NFL in terms of total offensive production, Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb finds it “hilarious” that there are individuals out there that think he doesn’t know the squad’s offensive play
book.

On Tuesday, 9 November, the Redskins play-caller addressed the issue during his weekly radio appearance on Washington D.C.’s ESPN980. “That is hilarious to me. That is really funny to me,” McNabb said of the accusations, continuing, “For everyone who may not
have heard any of this, it’s probably a shock to them.”

Although the Redskins (4-4) sit just two games out of first place in the NFC East, they have struggled to find the scoreboard this season. Thus far this year, the team is averaging just 19.4 points per game, which puts them near the bottom of the league statistically.

To make matters worse, McNabb, who has already had a few run-ins with first year coach Mike Shanahan this season, was benched on 31 October, during the fourth quarter of a 37-25 loss at the hands of the lowly Detroit Lions. While on the air, the embattled quarterback
touched on his benching, though he apparently hopes to get past it. “It’s over to me, and I just look to move on,” the six-time Pro Bowler said Tuesday.

Shanahan offered a number of differing reasons as to why McNabb, who is playing in his first season with the Redskins after spending the previous 11 with the Philadelphia Eagles, was pulled in favour of second-stringer Rex Grossman. Amongst those given were
that Grossman had a better understanding of Washington’s two-minute offense, that McNabb’s sore hamstrings had prevented him from productively running the team’s offense, and that McNabb’s cardiovascular endurance was lacking when compared to Grossman’s.

However, McNabb, who remains the squad’s starter, assured listeners that he was able to hash things out with both his head coach and Kyle Shanahan, the team’s offensive coordinator.
“Yes, I’m satisfied,” the 12-year veteran said of his sit down with the Shanahan’s. “You get what you ask for, and after that you put it behind you and move on.”
