Donovan Solano and Justin Ruggiano will be given more opportunities by Miami Marlins - MLB Update
Inability to live up to their potential by third-baseman Hanley Ramirez and centre fielder Chris Coghlan paves way for Donovan Solano and Justin Ruggiano. The Miami Marlins can no longer afford their hitters failing in every game and therefore experimenting
with replacements is the only option they can resort to.
Third-baseman Hanley Ramirez has floundered on the plate, despite being good at making plays in the season. Unable to make the most of his at-bats, Ramirez has compelled the manager Ozzie Guillen to bring hitters from the Minor Leagues.
Donovan Solano makes an entry in the line-up and registers an impact right away. For an offence, which has relied heavily on Omar Infante and Giancarlo Stanton in the season, Solano looks all set to diversify its dimensions. So far, he has responded to the
pitches right and has managed to draw appropriate at-bats.
No wonder that the manager Guillen entertains plans to keep him playing all-through the season. His performance in the Minor League and impressive batting average he has posted there make him a reliable option.
The fact he is into his groove at the moment, offering him more chances is being considered the right ploy. Along with Solano, Justin Ruggiano is another player who threatens Coghlan’s position in the outfield.
Guillen reiterated his confidence in Ruggiano’s ability to capitalise at-bats. He went on to suggest that he will not be shying away at discarding Coghlan, if his slump continues and preferring Ruggiano.
“I like the way Ruggiano plays in center field,” Guillen said. “I might get him more at bats there depending on how Coghlan’s doing. I’m not afraid to play those two guys [Solano and Ruggiano].”
Miami are in a desperate need to build a long winning streak. After having a tremendous month of May, their performance has taken a sharp nosedive.
Their offence has been the greatest undoing, in particular hitters up in the line-up. Shortstop, Jose Reyes and third-baseman Hanley Ramirez did not fulfil their role the way it was being envisaged before the start of the season.
Marlins will be looking to witness Solano and Ruggiano rewarding the confidence they are being accorded by the manager at the moment.
