“Don’t lie” says outfielder Torii Hunter, lashing out at Los Angeles Angels’ owner – MLB News

Detroit Tigers’ outfielder Torii Hunter is among those who criticised Los Angeles Angels’ move to sign Josh Hamilton to a reportedly five year $125 million contract on Thursday.
According to sources, Hunter lashed out Thursday on Twitter after the news surfaced that the Angels have signed Hamilton to a five year contract. He called Angels’ owner liar for apparently telling him the Angles could not afford to bring him back for the
next season.
Hunter played five big league seasons for the Angles and he accomplished everything with them except for a World Series ring. After moving into the free agency, he started to show interest in signing a deal with the Tigers.
He told his agent to set up a meeting with Tigers officials. He met Dave Dombrowski and Jim Leyland in Detroit last month and shortly thereafter he tweeted that he has agreed to a two year $26 million contract with Tigers.
"I was told money was tight but I guess the Arte (Moreno, Angels owner) had money hidden under a Mattress," Hunter posted on Twitter around 3:30 p.m. "Business is business but don't lie."
“To be fair, Hunter most certainly is entering the twilight of his career, while Hamilton is a perennial MVP candidate squarely in his prime and is one of the most feared hitters in the game today. He reportedly also had interest from the Rangers and Mariners.
Hunter, 37, wasn't offered a contract by the Angels this offseason, after posting one of the best seasons of his career”, said Tony Paul of detroitnews.com in his post.
This is what he tweeted later on, Just keeping it real!!" and, "I'm not upset just have fun with it."
However, the Tigers’ fans were quick to take to his defence. Hunter, who was not offered a contract extension at the end of the season, was clearly upset at the Hamilton’s signing with the Angles.
The 37 year old veteran outfield had an excellent time on the plate last season as he hit .313 with 16 home runs and 92 RBI’s. Surely, he will be waiting for some opportunities to help the Tigers win against the Angels.
