Don’t overdo gym, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419 advises young fast bowlers – Cricket News Update
Brett Lee, the former Australian fast bowler, is of the opinion that the young and emerging fast bowlers should spend more time on working on their fitness in the ground, instead of working out in gym most of the time.
Over the last couple of decades, the schedules of international cricket have become hectic, with more and more matches being played all across the globe. This is one of the major reasons behind the dearth of genuine fast bowlers in
international cricket.
The world of cricket witnessed numerous pacers from 1970s to 1990s, who could bowl consistently at 90 miles per hour or more. However, this is not the case anymore, with the speedsters struggling to come to terms with the rigors of
excessive competitive cricket.
One such case was witnessed during the three-match Test series between Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Wayne-Hastings-c68914) in the last
Test, as compared to their bowling line-up in the first two matches.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dennis-Keith-Lillee-c53639 advised the national selectors against making wholesale changes in the bowling attack. Lee, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, feels that the selectors should have listened
to the legendary cricketer, who thoroughly understands the art of fast bowling.
“Dennis has 355 Test wickets and they should listen to what he is saying. He's a class act and been my mentor for 20 years. To be a fast bowler, you have to be a good athlete and a good runner; less time in the gym, more time out training and working on
a guy's fitness,” Lee expressed.
Lee feels that a speedster should work hard on his fitness but said that doing laps in the ground is more beneficial than spending excessive time in gym, which does not help a pacer develop an athletic body.
He added, “Injuries can happen and you have to be so careful. As Dennis has said, running is such a big aspect for a fast bowler and I would like to see a lot of young guys doing that.”
