Don’t scrap ODIs, curtail the number of matches played, reckons http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 – Cricket News Update
James Anderson, the veteran English pacer, has raised his voice against the suggestion of scrapping One-Day Internationals from cricket altogether, so that other formats can be entertained more properly.
The speedster believes that scrapping ODIs is totally unrealistic; however, in his view, curtailing the number of matches played in a year is a better alternative.
Hoping that all forms of the game stay intact, Anderson said, “I made my international debut in a one-day game and I really enjoy playing in them. I guess the amount of them we play in a year is something that possibly could get
looked at, but I really enjoy playing in all forms of cricket and hopefully I will continue to do so for a few years.”
The 29-year-old, who is at the helm of the English pace attack, feels that the International schedule is jam packed, and by limiting the number of ODI’s in a year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) can divert their energies
for the advent of Test cricket, which is dwindling fast.
The World Test Championship could have been a good way to revive the dying format, but the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 has decided not the conduct the tournament till 2017.
English players have shown their fear over this decision by cricket’s governing body. The skipper of England’s Test team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, has called for actions to be taken by the ICC, if they want to salvage the longest format
of the game.
England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are the pioneers of Test cricket, and the fans of these respective countries follow it with heart. However, in other countries, Test fan following has decreased drastically, since they prefer to watch shorter
formats.
Anderson is a bit concerned by this and said, “It is a little worrying when you see games abroad and the crowds aren't that great. But every time we play in England the crowds are great. I just hope and pray the game can carry
on for a number of years because a lot of players are very passionate about it and I am sure the fans are too.”
