Dontnod reveals that Remember Me ‘was’ a Sony Exclusive – Video Games Update
Yesterday Capcom announced a new Intellectual Property (IP) at its Gamescom event called Remember Me.
The game is being developed by Dontnod Entertainment who revealed that the title was formally known as ‘Adrift’ and it was exclusive to the PlayStation 3. Dontnod co founder, Oskar Guilbert, states that Sony was not satisfied with the vision that the developer
had for the title and cancelled it along with a few other titles.
“Sony wanted to focus on a different type of game and we don’t really fit with that. But we’re in a very good relationship with them. They stopped a number of games last year at Sony and we took back the IP rights and were able to continue to develop it
thanks to the support of the investors. We were then able to sign the game to a publisher whose portfolio is a better fit for the game,” stated Guilbert in an interview with GamesIndustry International.
Capcom was quick to snag the rights to the AAA IP and plans to release it in 2013. Guilbert states that the team didn’t reveal any game-play last year but only showed some concept art for Adrift. He also went on to say that the game has gone through enough
changes and is now somewhat different to what the original Adrift was planned to be.
New game-play footage released at Gamescom shows the game to be a third person adventure plat-former with ‘Parkour’ elements very similar to Assassin’s Creed. The combat seems to be heavily inspired by that of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Capcom might have a hit
on its hands if Dontnod doesn’t mess up with the game-play.
Remember Me has been in development for over four years and Guilbert believes that its better for them to release it for the current generation consoles because of the large install base which means that more gamers will be willing to try out a new IP. The
game is set to release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Currently there has been no announcement for a Wii-U version for Nintendo fans.
