Id Software is set to bring one of the oldest and most iconic games back to the mainstream as it plans to packs Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 all into one package and release it on all platforms later on this year.
One of the first survival horror first-person shooters to ever combine machine guns with demons, Doom is the great-great-great grandfather of modern video games, especially the fps genre. Inspiring a plethora of other games, as well as an immensely disappointing
Hollywood adaptation, the series has long been one of the few names that have defined the video game industry.
It turns out that the game’s developer, id Softworks, is set to give the more nostalgic fans something to look forward to and at the same time, introduce a new generation of gamers to the Doom series.
The studio has announced that it is releasing the Doom BFG Edition which not only comes with bonus content and remastered visuals, but it also has both Doom and Doom 2 packed with it.
Not only that but the game is also set to be released on consoles as well, which would mean that the BFG Edition would be the first Doom title to be released on the PlayStation 3.
Bethesda, the game’s publisher made the following announcement regarding the upcoming bundle:
"This genre defining game and its add-on pack offers greatly enhanced graphics, deeply immersing the player in the demonic world of this terrifying horror masterpiece."
“Players will also experience a never-before-seen single-player story, The Lost Mission featuring seven heart-pounding levels that will once again have them on the edge of their seats."
The game’s controls have also been tweaked to better suit consoles. It read: "id Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the Doom single and multiplayer experience to the consoles.”
Also for the first time, gamers can experience Doom in 3D as the publisher confirmed that the game would support almost anything that had 3D output.
"New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before.
