Door k**b wont open on one side?

the door k**b is locked but on the inside it can be opened but on the other side it wont turn i need help please urgent.its my brothers room

the problem is the spindle ..this connects the two k***s or handles together ..it is too short and has moved ...you need to remove one handle and adjust the spindle ...to stop it happening again you will need to insert something down handle or k**b to prevent it going in too far   ..paper or a wood chipping will do

Leave your brother alone. If he wanted you to enter his room, he would have left the k**b unlocked. Could be a reason he does not want you to barge into his room!

I don't know where everyone is coming from today, but that is a perfectly normal function for the k**b. The inside of the door can be opened without having to change the button/lock from its locking position, and the outside will not turn because the lock position is on. Developed as a matter of convenience and to assure the door is locked whenever leaving, it is handy for making sure nosy brothers stay out of your room, as well as your house being locked every time you leave.  So what's the prob?

please get into more detail with the door is it one of those older doors with the long piece that holds the two door k***s, Well just take it apart and you will find a way to open it.

two possibilities- the k**b has been forced, where the mechanism is bent and sliding past the perts that should engage, or it is a simple privacy lock  which can be operated from the side that the lock is on and not from the other. turn the handleset from the lockable side , that should disengage the lock
