  1. Because the loft of his putter somehow was changed during the round and that is against the rules for equipment to be altered during play.  That is why he was putting with an iron.  Normally if that occurs most players will use a wedge.  He was using an 8 or 9 iron.  He made a birdie though so it can be done.

  2. He illegally altered the weight. Obiously it's illegal. He shouldn't have used an 8 iron but like a S or P.

  3. I think that is a cruel an unusual ruling. But here is the bigger question. With play stopped because of weather, can he put the putter bag in his bag tommorow? That would be so weird. I am missing golf like nuts with this great big Canadian Winter.

    Hit em straight!

  4. Something happened to his putter during play, causing it to be altered. The tv guys suggested that it was bent by dropping it or such. But if that happened, he could replace it.

At any rate, he is reduced to using an iron.

Personally, I would putt with my driver in that situation. It's got a wide bottom, is stable and has very little loft.
