  1. i suggest you go dorming on your first and or second year, that way u get to know more about your campus and university. and you get to meet roomates. My mom told me your first and second years in college univeristy are usually fun. VERY FUN!!

and on your 3rd and 4th year, my mom told me you'de usually try and just focus on finishing college , I recommend you get off campus housing and live w/ a couple of friends there, that way you would only pay part of the bills. AND THE FUN WOULD BE ENDLESS!!!

  2. DORMING

Pros:  Close to campus, meet lots of new people, meal plans, study rooms, close to library, don't have to worry about furniture, on the bus line

Cons:  Probably have to share a room with someone, rules about visitors, sometimes the food is gross, sharing bathroom & wearing shower shoes, may not have a laundromat

    OFF CAMPUS

Pros:  Can decorate yourself, private, can be louder than in a dorm, prob. have your own bathroom, maybe have your own washer/dryer, can choose your roommate

Cons:  Far away from campus means you have to get up way earlier for class to commute, more expensive (rent/bills/groceries/furniture), hard to concentrate if roommate is not in school (they want to party), you have to buy/make your own food

I think it's good to live in a dorm when you are a freshman and maybe even a sophomore.  It is fun getting to know everyone and it's way easier to find study groups and get to know the campus when you're so close.  Then once you get the hang of things, you can handle living off-campus.  The hardest part for me was commuting to early morning classes when I lived in an apartment.  I had to get up WAY earlier than I would have if I lived on-campus, and usually that meant I skipped class (which is a bad habit to get into).  But it is fun once you get your first apartment because then you have people over for little get togethers and it's your own place.

  3. Freshman year many schools (like mine) require you to live on campus, and I definitely support that because you are close to classes and it is the best way to meet people. You also don't have to take care of cooking, cleaning, etc, which is nice...kind of like a hotel.

Living off campus has its perks that you ARE your own boss so to speak, and get to be a "grown up" and have parties whenever with no quiet hours, but you can get a noise violation from police which sucks. If you're starting college, I say go for dorms- it's more expensive but it's definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

Oh and in the dorms if your roommate sucks you can change dorms; you can't break a lease in an apartment.

  4. If you are going to a university where you do not know anyone, or very few people, then a dorm would be the optimal choice for you. In a dorm, you will make tons of new friends and will constantly will be in the middle of the social atmosphere. Also, dorms are normally much cheaper. On the other hand, off-campus housing gives you much more privacy and space. However, with off-campus housing, there will be a commute, you will not be in the social atmosphere at all times, and it will more-than-likely cost much more.

  5. Dorms allow you to more easily participate in the full campus experience. You won't have to worry about monthly bills but you will not have the privacy that you get in your own place.

Off campus housing can be more private and less expensive at times but it is more of a hassle. You have to worry about commuting and the extra responsibility.
