Dorsett boat question

Question

I have a friend with a dorsett boat i would guess about 14 foot that has a merc 500 (which from what i can tell may be a late 60s early 70s model motor) this is a 50hp motor. the speedometer on the boat says it will do 45. They want $500 for it. I was wonder if you think its worth $500. It also comes with a nice fishfinder, and two anchors. The boat is in very good condition though it needs a new steering wheel, I was thinking a nice chrome one would work well. Let me know what you think.

The guys are right. Plus, just like the speedo on a car, the top mph on the speedo does not mean the boat will do 45 mph.

That's not a bad price for a boat and trailer. (That floats and has firm floors& transom)  As far as the motor was concerned It just happens to be a racing category and the power heads are getting kind of scarce. So if you don't want an old motor-send it to e-bay and see what happens.

answer to your question first is that 45 cal is right on the $$$.

The engine is old and are parts hard to find> $500. isn't much so expect to double that amount in short time>
