Former German international and Borussia Dortmund player, Karl-Heinz Riedle, claimed that the Bundesliga champions have a good chance in the UEFA Champions League this year.
The Black Yellows won their first group stage clash against Ajax Amsterdam at Signal Iduna Park earlier this week courtesy a late goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255. The German champions have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ with the
likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax Amsterdam.
Riedle claimed that it was a great game and praised both sides for playing impressively throughout the course of 90 minutes. The former striker added that winning against the Dutch side was by no means an easy task as the side
has some great players.
The former BVB and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 attacker admitted that Real Madrid and City have some world-class players in their squad and that many expect the dup to progress, but Dortmund have a very good chance of qualifying for the next round.
He added that the Germans will have to play to their full potential to succeed in the Champions League.
“I think the match was really good. Ajax weren't easy opponents and it was a close match. Dortmund didn't show enough potency during the first half but overall it was a great performance that they can build upon. Real and Manchester
City have outstanding teams. If Dortmund put in their best performance, they have a chance against these teams,” the 47-year-old was quoted as saying in an interview.
Riedle stressed that Dortmund lost a very important player in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733, who he thinks is a more than adequate replacement. He expects the German international
to shine as the season unfolds.
“They lost an important player in Shinji Kagawa, but they found in Marco Reus an adequate replacement, who has plenty of potential,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund have had a mixed start to the season and are currently fifth on the Bundesliga standings table with seven points from the three games played. They will next face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday,
October 3, in the Champions League.
