The former West http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 U-21 international said that the Black Yellows need to change their playing style in the continental format, as they are pitted in the group of death with top European clubs.
Former central midfielder Stefan Effenberg believes that Borussia Dortmund have the potential to shine in the UEFA Champions League, and can make a positive impact in the competition as they have learned from the experience of
the tournament last season. The BVB suffered a disappointing group stage exit in last year’s edition.
The former Germany legend suggested that the Borussians have a tough group and will face the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Ajax for progression to the knockout stages. The Bundesliga based outfit will have to be on
top of their game and will need to pull off a major surprise to qualify for the next round of the competition.
Effenberg wants the German side to alter their attacking approach and concentrate more on the defensive front, and make a collective effort as they are placed in the most competitive group of Europe’s Premier competition. The Ruhr
team cannot adopt their league style in the Champions League as it is a whole another level of football.
Moreover, the former Fiorentina and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Arabi-c38292 player said that Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp will need to tinker his side’s game play as they face strong and great attacking teams such as Madrid and City.
"They will not achieve their goals with their offensive game plan. Perhaps Jurgen Klopp should change their style a bit. You simply cannot keep up that attacking style of play in such a tough group,” he was quoted as saying in
an interview.
"The important thing is to have a plan B for occasions like this. You cannot hit the gas like they do every three or four days over the course of the season," the 1992 UEFA European Championships runners-up finally concluded.
Furthermore, Effenberg claimed that they should have back-up tactics in store as well, as the German team cannot replicate their domestic style in the continental format. Dortmund kick-off their European season against Ajax in
the coming mid-week.
