The left-back's current deal expires in the summer of 2014 but the defending champions and the player both want to prolong their association with each other by signing a new deal. Schmelzer rose through the ranks of the club’s
youth academy and has made over a hundred appearances for the BVB.
Dortmund general manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Zorc is finalising the contract extension with the full-back, and expressed his delight over how the talks are developing. He claimed that the youngster is a key player for the DFB-Pokal champions
and is destined for great things in his career.
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-c23507 Schmelzer is a regular part of our club's first team. He is a Germany international,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The club official suggested that the defender is also a part of the national team. He further added that the player is in the long term strategy of the club, and the deal is very close to being concluded.
"It is a fact we are out to have Marcel playing on for our club for a long time. We are in good talks," he added.
"I have no reason to be happy. I am playing even less than last season,” he mused.
"I think Jurgen Klopp is the best manager in Germany but I do not feel supported by him. I am planning to talk to him," he finally concluded.
